This is the first project that Mr. Biondolillo's class did when beginning the school year. After learning the history of trading cards, from their origins as "trade cards" to the rise in popularity thanks to the sports and comic book genres, and to the multimillion dollar business that they are today. Each student selected a topic that interested them, and worked on a nine-sheet promo series of their own cards. While only the fronts of the cards are seen here, each card indeed has a back as well, depicting a logo that unites the series for each artist. These were drawn with colored pencil and micron on 3.5x2.5 Bristol cards.
Animation
This project was a long time in the making. Before teaching the class about the principles of 2D animation and filmmaking, Mr. Biondolillo first taught a unit on how to draw the face and figure, and then on cartooning, assuming that many students would choose to animate human beings. The results, however, were quite varied. While some students did indeed animate people, others animated vehicles, animals, weather and even the change in seasons. Most students worked digitally, but others chose to work traditionally - even in flip book form! Grab your popcorn and settle in to see the wonderful short films of this young group of animators!
