Zentangling is the process of drawing patterns which combine to form a larger design or image. In this case, the students were tasked with drawing the first letter of their first name and then filling it with colorful zentangles, done using Ultra Finepoint Sharpies.
Ocean Scene
The students were given a step by step demonstration of how to draw an orca (or killer whale) and then were responsible for placing it in an ocean scene of their own creation.
Optical Illusion Columns
Optical Illusion art typically creates the illusion of swelling, warping, or three-dimensionality. The goal was to create the sense that these flat columns on paper are actually round and three-dimensional using shading and rounded lines.
Tiles Featuring Modern Art
The students studied modern artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Kandinsky, Warhol, Haring, and so on. They were then asked to chose a painting, or multiple paintings, by one of these artists to recreate with Sharpies or watercolor colored pencils on ceramic tiles.
